Pengana Capital Group (PCG) executive, Dean Weinbren, has shared what he believes contributed to the fund manager’s rise to $4 billion in assets under management(AUM).

Last week, the firm announced it had closed out the 2025-26 financial year with $4 billion, up from $3.6 billion at the start of the year. Assets in Pengana’s funds had reached $3.85 billion in November 2025 but had begun declining down to $3.5 billion in March before slowly rebuilding up again.

Pengana was founded in 2003 by chief executive Russel Pillemer and is headquartered in Sydney, with offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide, managing a range of international and Australian strategies.

Speaking to Money Management, executive director Weinbren – who joined PCG in 2017 and became a director in 2019 – said the fund manager has sought to bring new innovations to the marketplace, including its TermPlus product launched in 2024 and its PE1 investment trust which invested in SpaceX.

Most recently, it launched an AI Private Opportunities Trust on the ASX, investing in private companies developing, enabling or benefiting from AI technologies, from early-stage ventures to late-stage pre-IPO businesses such as Anthropic and OpenAI.

“Growth has come through some of our recent innovations bringing a range of sought-after private market sectors to Australian investors: our global private credit range through vehicles like PCX and TermPlus; diversified global private equity (and SpaceX) through PE1; and the launch of AIX to deliver a portfolio leading private AI companies benefitting from the expansion of AI, have all contributed to FUM and growing investor interest.

“This is a great milestone for us as we continue to focus on delivering best-of-breed investment opportunities into unique and highly sought-after asset classes. It reflects our long-term strategy to build a diversified, innovation-led funds management business with a range of unparalleled investment solutions for Australian investors.”
